Registry Tricks to optimize a Slow PC

You can modify your slow pc into a fast performing and result oriented PC. I have few registry tips and tricks that can change or enhance your PC over all performance for sure. Though there are hundreds of registry tricks and tips for slow PC issue or for many other issues in your PC, however it is not possible to mention all of them here.

1.   Unload startup-: There are many unnecessary items that do not help windows startup. Rather they obstruct normal boot process and all the programs also get loaded in memory while windows boots up. You may simply uncheck the items that are not required to boot from startup menu.

Path-> Start->Run-> Type in there msconfig and press OK. When a new windows comes in select startup tab and here you need to uncheck the items that are not needed to boot your windows. Note- Please note almost all the services listn in startup tab are not required to boot as windows hides its essential boot services from user. This solves slow PC issue to a maximum extent.

2.   Change boot timeout :-  In the same windows where startup items are listed there is another tab boot.ini, in this section you may find Timeout option. This options shows boot timeout. You can change this (Default 30 seconds) to 5 seconds. This will reduce slow PC or slow startup issue.

3.   Reduce shutdown time :- In slow PC issue there is another problem and that is slow shutdown. With the help of registry tips you can reduce this slow shutting down issue.

Complete path for this-

Start -> Run -> type regedit

Locate HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop on the left side of the registry editor window.

Double click on autoEndTasks key from the right window and assign the value to be 1. The value before is 0.

Change the method is also simple. Just change the AutoEndTasks value to 0 again.

4. Disable Indexing Services: If you do not search a lot in your windows you may disable the Indexing service also increases pc speed and can curb slow PC issue. Complete Path is mentioned below.

1. Go to Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Control Panel
4. Double-click Add/Remove Programs
5. Click the Add/Remove Window Components
6. Uncheck the Indexing services
7. Click Next

1. Run an antivirus program always: –   Using an antivirus program always plays safe in your PC. This is one of the most important tasks in order to keep PC fit and healthy and to avoid slow PC issue. Virus and Spyware they enter though the Internet makes PC slow and damages your PC severely.

Deleting Registry Keys from the Command Line

One of the good features I have found in windows and that is to delete any Registry Key from command line without going in registry editor.  At the Windows Command line:

Goto the command line from start->run->type in  there cmd and press OK.

RegEdit /l location of System.dat /R location of User.dat /D Registry key to delete 
You cannot be in Windows at the time you use this switch.

Also you can create a reg file as such: 
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEthe key you want to delete] 
Then at the Command line type: 
1. RegEdit C:Windows(name of the regfile).
